The ‘new’ ‘reviewed’ ‘updated’ ‘reformed’ EYFS is not a complete change so there’s no need to stop or be thrown off course; keep moving forward building on your good practice.
It is also an opportunity to reflect and make sure you’ve got your balance!
Read the key documents and make them work for you. Talk to your colleagues, your manager or head teacher and make sure you develop a shared vision and view of what the changes mean for you and your setting.
The government says it should:
- reduce paperwork and bureaucracy;
- strengthen partnerships between parents and professionals;
- focus on the three prime areas of learning most essential for children’s readiness for future learning and healthy development;
- simplify assessment at age five; and
- provide for early intervention where necessary, through the introduction of a progress check at age two.
