Projects

I have been inspired to begin to document some of the projects I have been involved with by the fantastic people I work with. I hope that by sharing some of my work you will see how I could work with you and your teams to get things done and make a difference.

The Learning Environment as the Third Teacher

The work in the EYFS Unit reminded me of the notion of the Environment as the Third Teacher.

Watch out for a future training event I’m planning with Nechells+ EAZ on Learning Environments.

I have always wanted to make my classroom my own and as a new teacher would spend hours arranging and rearranging the furniture to make sure it felt right and worked for me and the class I had at the time (this trait continued through my career much to the frustration of people I worked with at times....I loved the four day challenge in my previous post!

Since then I have been fortunate enough to be able to explore this further and develop my understanding of why creating a learning environment is so important and why we need to spend time reflecting on our environments inside and outside.

The Reggio approach places a heavy emphasis on creating aesthetically pleasing spaces for young children, where their work can shine out, their learning documented and history traced. They talk about the environment as the third teacher, with parent and teacher as the first two!
